Incidente en el refugio fue un robo no un asalto

Estoy escribiendo para ayudar la parada de un rumor que ha estado circulando acerca de un asalto de una familia de turistas en el Refugio de Fish & Widllife el martes. Hablé con William Wolfrom, que trabaja en seguridad con el Servicio de Pesca & Silvestre (FWS), que me dijo que esto fue falso. Refuge incident was beach theft not an assault

I am writing to help stop a rumor that has been circulating about an assault on a family of tourists in the Refuge on Tuesday. I spoke to William Wolfrom, Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) law enforcement officer in the refuge, who told me that this was untrue. On Tuesday, the police did stop a man who had robbed a tourist at Playa Playuela (Garcia Beach). The tourist identified the robber but decided not to press charges. Their belongings were found with the help of the police. Wolfrom recommends that tourists hide their valuables in a Ziploc bag in the sand.

The good news is that the incident was assisted by Puerto Rican mounted police who were patrolling the beaches in the refuge. FWS has arranged for these patrols from the police headquarters. On Wednesday, the mounted police were also patrolling Sun bay and Navio Beach. Wolfrom says that they soon will be patrolling in civilian areas because crimes in the refuge and civilian areas are perpetrated by the same individuals. He says that they have built a stable for the police horses.

Green Store

It is very unfortunate news that the Green Store had an attempted armed robbery on Tuesday. The robber showed a gun to the store clerk, but ran away when the owner of the store appeared from the back of the store. I have heard other reports of recent armed robberies of 3 small businesses in Vieques that I have not had time to confirm.
